    Hi Rita,

Recently, I attended a family reunion in New Bern for my mother's family. Cason Brinson is linked to my father's family (Gibbs') from Hyde County, NC which is in the coastal north eastern part of the state. Matthew Brinson passed through the area where two of his daughters married. This should give you good information for branching the tree a little further.
I referenced the Brinson House in my post. I've also attached pictures of the house taken last weekend. In addition, there is a wonderful book available (I purchased on Amazon). Here, There, and Yonder: Cason & Sons: A Brinson Genealogy written by Robert W. Brinson. This provides the story of the Brinson's entering America in present day Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Chesapeake, VA, also known as the Tide Water Region of Virginia. In colonial days, it was Princess Ann County, VA.
According to the book, the Brinsons that landed in VA were the Brinson's of Brimstone Hill, Essex, England. The Gibbs' are traced to Essex, England. Most likely, the Brinson's and Gibbs' were familiar with one another for Cason to allow his daughers to marry and leave them in Hyde County, NC. According to Cason's will, a large plot of land that Cason Brinson owned was inherited by Cason Gibbs (son of Joseph Gibbs, Sr. and Mary Brinson).
